The III Meeting of the International Chapters organized by the Club Español del Arbitraje (CEA) and the River Plate Chapter, was held on Thursday 6 and Friday 7, November 2014 in Buenos Aires ( Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad de Buenos Aires) under the title “¿Exists a substantive law in arbitration?”.

The panels had moderators and speakers of 13 countries (Germany, Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Spain, Panama, Paraguay, Poland, Switzerland, Uruguay and Venezuela), with the following topics:

(i) Interpretation and application of the national law by the arbitrator in each case - The arbitrators and national jurisprudence

(ii) International commercial law: the application by the arbitrators - Usage of trade and traffic

(iii) International commercial law: the application by the arbitrators - The general principles of international commercial law. International conventions.

(iv) The public order as a limitation to the law chosen by the parties - The general principles of international commercial law. International conventions.

(v) Interpretation of the contract by the arbitrators - methods and rules for interpretation: relation between the national law and the international commercial law. Interpretation rules of the international contracts.

(vi) Proof of right

On Friday 7 November, was held the CEA-40 Meeting under the title “The arbitration constitutionalisation” and “Arbitration and sports."
